Ga Mantse Endorses and Pledges Full Partnership for GaDangme Volunteer Teachers Initiative to Restore GaDangme Language in Greater Accra
The GaDangme National Students’ Union (GADANSU) has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing cultural and educational revival after receiving a strong endorsement and full partnership commitment from the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, for the Union’s Volunteer Teachers Program.
The program seeks to address the growing decline in GaDangme language instruction across basic schools in the Greater Accra Region, particularly in areas where the shortage of Ga and Dangme language teachers has hindered effective teaching.
During a courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse Palace, the leadership of GADANSU presented an update on the program and its upcoming deployment phase. In response, the Ga Mantse not only endorsed the initiative but also assured the Union of the full support and involvement of the Office of the Ga Mantse and the Ga Traditional Council.
His Majesty emphasized that reviving, promoting, and sustaining the GaDangme language is a shared responsibility, stating that his office will actively collaborate with GADANSU and education stakeholders as the program rollout begins soon.
The endorsement is considered a major turning point and a boost to regional support efforts aimed at restoring the indigenous language through structured, community-backed educational interventions.
The leadership of GADANSU expressed profound gratitude to His Royal Majesty for his trust and partnership, noting that language preservation is essential to cultural continuity. They further stressed that the loss of language leads to the gradual erosion of identity, heritage, and intergenerational cultural knowledge.
The Volunteer Teachers Program, which recently completed a three-day orientation and training session in the Dangme State in collaboration with the Ada West Education Directorate, will soon deploy trained volunteer teachers to selected schools. The initiative aligns with Ghana’s national education policy promoting local language instruction at the basic school level.
With the full backing of the Ga Mantse, the Ga Traditional Council, and other emerging institutional collaborators, the program is expected to attract broader public support, resource commitment, and long-term sustainability.
GADANSU reaffirmed its commitment to preserving GaDangme heritage and called on the Ghana Education Service, traditional authorities, municipal assemblies, schools, and GaDangme families to support this historic effort.
The Union remains resolute in its mission: “Advancing education, upholding identity.”
